Description

This 1963 catamaran sailboat patent stretches across gallery-wrapped canvas in 11×14 or 16×20. As a sailboat patent canvas print it carries all three original figures – the side elevation under a full mainsail and jib, the plan view of the twin hulls, and the front elevation showing the connecting deck and two cockpit wells – printed in fine schematic linework on an aged parchment ground. It holds its own in a den, an office, or a lake house entryway.

Patent No. 3,077,850, titled Sailboat of the Catamaran Type, was filed June 19, 1961 and granted February 19, 1963. The twin-hull layout it describes trades a single deep keel for two slim hulls joined by a flat deck, which is what lets a catamaran sit level and stable on the water instead of leaning into the wind the way a traditional single-hull boat does. That engineering choice is the whole subject of the drawing, laid out figure by figure the way a patent office once recorded it.

Each canvas is made to order in our family-owned workshop in Northeast Ohio, stretched over a solid wood frame and printed with fade-resistant inks so the aged tone holds up for years in a coastal or lake house setting. The 16×20 size anchors a wall on its own above a mantel or console, while the 11×14 tucks into a smaller gallery grouping in a hallway or reading nook.

Both sizes ship with adhesive strips already attached to the back – press them to the wall and it holds securely without nails or tools, and removes cleanly without holes or wall damage, a real advantage for a rental cottage or a lake house that cannot take a nail. Either size is gallery-wrapped, with the image carried around the edges for a clean, finished look.

One patent, two canvas sizes – a fitting birthday or housewarming gift for a boat owner, a sailor, or anyone who loves the open water.

Every order is made and packed by hand in our family shop in Northeast Ohio. We use premium gallery-wrapped canvas, high-quality frame material and fade-resistant inks for both prints and canvas. Each frame is made to order and shipped same or next business day.
