Description
The Ulysses S. Grant photograph arrives printed on canvas and stretched, taken by Mathew Brady in the spring of 1864 at the general’s Cold Harbor headquarters during the Overland Campaign. It comes in two sizes, an 11×14 and a 16×20, each offered gallery-wrapped or as a floating-frame canvas. As an Ulysses S. Grant canvas print it arrives ready to hang, the photograph itself carrying the whole story.
Grant wears a slouch hat and a double-breasted frock coat in this image, three stars on each shoulder strap showing his rank as commander of the Union armies. He leans one hand against a rope-wrapped tree trunk, hat low, a folding camp chair and tent wall set behind him at the field headquarters. Brady captured this scene at Cold Harbor only weeks before the fighting there turned costly, and less than a year before Lee’s surrender at Appomattox ended the war. Enlarged on canvas, the grain and detail of the original photograph hold up at both sizes offered here.
Made in the USA and made to order in our family workshop in Northeast Ohio, this Ulysses S. Grant canvas is stretched over a sturdy frame and printed with fade-resistant inks. It suits office wall decor, vintage wall art, or a piece of large wall art for a den, library, or study, and it makes a fitting statement of American history for a history teacher, veteran, or Civil War collector.
Each canvas hangs with hardware that holds securely without nails or tools and removes cleanly without holes or wall damage, so it moves easily from a rental to a permanent home. Choose the classic gallery-wrapped edge or upgrade to the floating-frame style, in an 11×14 or a 16×20, for a look that suits an office or a formal study just as well.
Add this Ulysses S. Grant canvas print to a gallery of American history, or give it to the history lover, veteran, or collector who already treasures the story of the Union general who saved it.
