Compound Bow Patent Canvas Print, Vintage Archery Wall Art for Hunters

A 1987 compound bow patent line drawing, printed on gallery-wrapped canvas in two sizes – an 11×14 for a smaller wall or a gallery grouping, and a 16×20 that holds a wall on its own. As a compound bow patent canvas print it reproduces M. A. McPherson’s Compound Archery Bow System as it was filed, in fine sepia linework on an aged parchment tone, for anyone who shoots a modern bow or hunts with one.

The McPherson patent, No. 4,660,536, was filed in June 1985 and published on April 28, 1987. Its main figure shows the whole bow – riser, grip, sight bar, stabilizer and both limbs – with the eccentric cam wheels at each limb tip and the cables that run between them. The smaller figures take the cam assembly apart piece by piece: the wheel, the axle, the bushings and the way the cable wraps the cam. Fig. 7 plots draw weight in pounds against draw length in inches, showing the weight peak and then drop away near full draw. That drop, the let-off, is what lets an archer hold a heavy bow at full draw long enough to aim, and it is the reason the compound bow took over bow hunting and much of target archery from the mid-1970s on. Few archery prints carry that much real engineering, which is why this sheet appeals to the archer who tunes his own bow as much as to the one who simply loves the sport.
