Lewis Hine Framed Print, Addie Card Cotton Mill Spinner Photograph

Description

This 8×8 framed print reproduces Lewis Hine’s 1910 photograph of a barefoot young spinner in a plaid pinafore, one sleeve rolled up, her arm resting on the spinning frame with rows of bobbins and spools lined up behind her. As a lewis hine framed print it arrives finished, with a clear front panel, easel back and wall hanger, and is available in Barnwood, Charcoal, Black or Walnut.

Hine identified her in his own notes as Addie Card, a twelve-year-old spinner working in a cotton mill in North Pownal, Vermont, one of hundreds of working children he photographed for the National Child Labor Committee in the early 1900s. He was not recording a quaint scene; he was building a photographic case for reform, standing children beside the machinery they operated so the evidence could not be waved away. More than a century later the photograph is still read the same way – plainly, and without sentiment added to it.

This piece is made to order in our family-owned workshop in NE Ohio, made in the USA and printed with fade-resistant inks that hold true detail and contrast for years. Choose from four finishes – Barnwood, Charcoal, Black or Walnut – so it sits naturally beside other vintage frame pieces and historical gifts on a gallery wall, or anchors a corner built around documentary photography on its own.

The 8×8 size sits neatly on a shelf or desk with the fold-out easel back, or hangs on the wall with the built-in hanger – simple to set up either way. The front panel is lightweight and shatter-resistant, keeping the photograph crystal-clear without the weight of a heavier alternative, at home in a study, classroom or hallway.

Give this framed print a place where it will actually be looked at – a study, a classroom, a hallway gallery – a fitting choice for a teacher, a collector of documentary photography, or anyone who values the real history behind American labor.

Every order is made and packed by hand in our family shop in Northeast Ohio. We use premium gallery-wrapped canvas, high-quality frame material and fade-resistant inks for both prints and canvas. Each frame is made to order and shipped same or next business day.

Crossroads Home Decor is built around one simple idea: to Inspire, Encourage, and Connect. If you have any questions about this listing or your order, please send us a message — we’re happy to help. Thank you for supporting a small family business.
